A splendid full-day excursion from Florence to explore Italy’s Italian Riviera.
Guests have the luxury of a private driver collecting them for the 1.5 hour drive from Florence (or other prearranged location), through the Tuscany region to the town of La Spezia in the Liguria region. From here, an exploration of the Cinque Terre villages commences in the company of an expert local tour guide to lead the way!
A picturesque boat ride to Monterosso offers around 1.5 hours of spectacular vistas from the sea. The largest of the five villages, Monterosso is replete with charming boutiques, local produce stores and picturesque churches to explore.
Continuing on to Vernazza, guests have the option of taking a swim or climbing an ancient defense tower. The Cinque Terre tour will then head to Manarola, where it is possible to undertake a 40-minute hike through the local vineyards strung across the cliffs overlooking the sea.
Guests are free to choose lunch in one of the local restaurants or cafés, or to even gather up some regional delicacies for a picnic on the rocks. Our guide is happy to provide suggestions!
After a splendid day exploring 3 or 4 of the 5 villages comprising the stunning Cinque Terre, the driver will await the group in Riomaggiore for a relaxing 1.5-hour return drive to Florence.
Along a rugged stretch of Liguria’s coast, the Cinque Terre is comprised of five picturesque fishing villages.
Today a UNESCO World Heritage Site and National Park, the Cinque Terre landscape is as unique as it is stunning. Each village sits on the sides of sheer cliffs, a strategic location historically to protect the villages from military and pirate attacks.
Since at least the 11th century, man has forged out farmland, olive groves and vineyards throughout this tough terrain, as well as constructing quaint houses, historic forts and defense towers, arresting churches and panoramic piazzas and terraces throughout.
Legend has it that the rich iconic colors of the houses allowed fisherman to easily distinguish their own homes from the sea – and to check that their wives were behaving in their absence! The locals have developed a rich array of local delicacies, including seafood dishes, anchovy recipes, focaccia, “farinata” chickpea pancake, and pesto. A dry white wine, the Sciaccatrà dessert wine, grappa and Limoncello have also evolved in the Cinque Terre.The five lands are Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza and Monterosso al Mare. Corniglia sits atop a promontory and requires climbing up 382 stairs to reach (the reason why we happily settle for viewing it from afar only!).

So that this tour may be tailored to individual preferences, all public transport, food and beverages are additional, to be paid by guests directly on the day. This ensures our guests may experience the best of the region exactly as they wish. The hike and boat transport between villages is subject to weather conditions and local ordinances. Expect to pay around € 16 per person for the “Cinque Terre Card” (train) and/or around € 30 per person for boat tickets.
