This fabulous private transfer tour commences with the convenience of a personal driver collecting guests at around 7.00 am from their accommodation in Rome. Heading south, guests will spend just over two hours taking in exemplary scenery from the Lazio region through to the adjacent Campania region. There, in the Province of Naples, will be the first stop – Pompeii! An official Pompeii walking tour guide/archeologist will meet the group for a 2 ½ hour guided tour through the ancient Roman city of Pompeii. Afterwards enjoy a light lunch, with suggestions.
Pompeii is an amazing archeological site, with private houses to public offices, places of rest and recreation including the Amphitheater, theaters, thermal baths in the Forum and the Lupanare. Guests can really see and understand how people lived until that fateful day in 79 A.D. In terms of religious sites, there is the Basilica, the Temples of Isis, Jupiter, Apollo and the sanctuary of the Lari Pubblici, as well as the indoor market – the Macellum. After enjoying lunch guests will continue the splendid journey to the Amalfi Coast, where the group will be dropped off at their accommodation in the late afternoon in the coastal town of Sorrento. Drop off arrangements can be made for other locations on request with a personalized quotation.
The adjoining Campania rather is rich in contrasts, being home to the city of Naples, Capri Island, Pompeii and the Amalfi Coast, and more.
Pompeii, founded in around 6th-7th century B.C., grew into a remarkably sophisticated town-city with a population of around 11,000 before being wiped out by 13-20 feet of lava from the eruption of nearby Vesuvius on 24th August, 79 A.D.
Whilst some evidence suggests the eruption actually occurred three months later, the August date would be much more poignant, given it follows the Vulcanalia festival dedicated to the Roman god of fire and volcanoes. The ash remained where it fell until excavations in 1599 and 1748. Careful archeological efforts revealed great insights into life at the time, whilst voids in the hardened ash left by humans where filled with plaster to create emotive casts of Pompeii’s inhabitants in their desperate final moments.
Going from Pompeii to the Amalfi Coast is to enter another world again, with the stunning villages along the shoreline offering splendid views, colorful architecture, beautiful nature, delicious cuisine, picturesque beaches and a unique history. Indeed, this area is a veritable microcosmic paradise.
